The first mention of football as the game of "kicking the ball with feet" was found by historians in Chinese sources dating back to the second millennium BC. The game was called Tsu Chu, which means "kick with the foot." Playing football allowed Chinese warriors to keep fit.

No one knows for sure when this game first appeared. Some argue that the precursor of football was the wild game of the Saxons who lived in England in the 8th century. They used to kick the severed heads of the enemies on the battlefield after the battle.
