The Clifford the Big Red Dog movie released its first teaser on Wednesday that showed a row of regular dogs then the big red canine. 

The upcoming film is based on the iconic children’s book character created by author and cartoonist Norman Bridwell.

The feature will star Big Little Lies actress Darby Camp along with Kenan Thompson, Jack Whitehall, and John Cleese.

The story will follow middle schooler Emily Elizabeth, who is gifted a magical red puppy that attracts the attention of a genetics company, leading Emily and her uncle on an adventure across New York City.

The film is directed by Alvin and the Chipmunks: The Road Chip director Walt Becker; the feature was originally set to be directed by David Bowers.

Development on the film originally began in 2012 as a joint venture between Universal Pictures and Illumination Entertainment.

While Illumination eventually dropped out of the project, the rights to the project were owned by Universal until 2016, when Paramount Pictures purchased them.

Principal photography on the feature began in June of 2019, and ran through August of the same year.

The film is set to be released on November 5, 2021 after being pushed back a year due to the effects of COVID-19 on the film industry; the film previously had scheduled release dates in April and December of 2016.

Bridwell published the first Clifford book in 1963 after a colleague recommended that he turn one of his drawings into a full-fledged story.

The series has spawned over 40 books since then and helped establish the Scholastic Book Company as a major children’s book publisher.

An animated television series first debuted in 2000 and ran for 65 episodes until 2003; Clifford was voiced by Three’s Company actor John Ritter, and the series also starred Kel Mitchell as T-Bone.

A 2003 movie served as the series finale for the show, and featured the voice talents of John Goodman, Judge Reinhold, and Jenna Elfman.

The animated series also spawned a prequel focusing on Clifford’s days as a puppy and ran from 2003 until 2006; a reboot of the show premiered on Amazon Prime Video and PBS in 2019.
