Jose Mourinho believes Toby Alderweireld will be unavailable for ‘between 2-4 weeks’ but is relieved his muscular injury is not as serious as first feared.

The Tottenham centre back was substituted in the 81st minute during the 2-0 win against Manchester City on Saturday and Mourinho was not optimistic about his condition after the game.

After the game, Mourinho was not optimistic about the Belgian’s condition, but the Spurs boss said on Wednesday, in his pre-match press conference ahead of their Europa League clash against Ludogorets on Thursday: ‘He has a muscular injury but not as big as we initially thought.

He’ll miss the Europa League game against Ludogorets and the league clash versus Chelsea

‘He’ll have his time to be out but not like a month, which was immediately what we thought.

‘So I would say between 2-4 weeks but of course not playing tomorrow.’

Mourinho also confirmed that Erik Lamela would not be available for tomorrow’s game or the Premier League match at Chelsea on Sunday, but did confirm that Matt Doherty is set to be named on the bench tomorrow after he contracted coronavirus while on international duty with Ireland.

‘Erik I don’t think back this week for tomorrow or for Sunday. I think I can say that,’ Mourinho said.

‘Yeah he’s [Doherty] back. By the legal and clinical point of view he’s ready. Is he ready to start a match? We don’t know.

‘Honestly I still have some work to do with him to understand that, but to participate in the game, playing or being on the bench, it’s good, because in the Europa League we can have 12 players on the bench so 12 plus 11 makes 23 and it’s good to have him in the 23-man squad.’

Mourinho also opened up on his Instagram page, where he regularly posts snaps with funny captions from inside the dressing room.

‘I just try to open our world to the world,’ he explained.

‘People many times they love the inside, they love what they don’t see. I think the success of that Amazon series was exactly that everything was open.

‘I think it’s good fun for everyone.’
