The hunt for ‘Mindhunter’ show?
‘Mindhunter’ is exactly what the name suggests. The show began developing in 2009 with Charlize Theron giving a non-fiction crime book titled ’Mindhunter: Inside the FBI’s Elite Serial Crime Unit’ to David Fincher.
Back then, it was supposed to be a Fox21 project. Unfortunately, the project got delayed for years until David Fincher really felt that he had the guts to now produce a TV show. Finally, in 2015, Netflix picked up ‘Mindhunter’. Netflix created two unforgettable seasons with David Fincher being one of the executive producers and directors.
Season 1 and season 2 of the show premiered in October 2017 and August 2019, respectively. However, now with over a year after season 2, fans are pleading to Netflix to announce season 3 of ‘Mindhunter’.
Has Netflix revived ‘Mindhunter’ for season 3?
Since Netflix premiered season 2 of ‘Mindhunter’ on August 16, 2019, fans are desperately waiting for a season 3 revival announcement. Now, with over a year gone, Netflix is yet to confirm if ‘Mindhunter’ will be coming back for another season or not.
Though fans are extremely positive about the popularity of the series and the fact that Netflix hasn’t cancelled it yet, the fact is that Netflix had released the cast from their contracts in January 2020. Netflix has also put the show on infinite hold. One of the key reasons was David Fincher being busy with several other projects including Netflix’s ‘Mank’.
A Netflix representative told TVLine:
“David is focused on directing his first Netflix film ‘Mank’ and on producing the second season of ‘Love, Death, and Robots’. He may revisit ‘Mindhunter’ again in the future, but in the meantime felt it wasn’t fair to the actors to hold them from seeking other work while he was exploring new work of his own.”
It is true that Netflix has not cancelled season 3 of ‘Mindhunter’, and the plans to drag the show till 5 seasons have been reported before. But the fact that Fincher is busy with serval other projects, and the cast will also find themselves consumed by new projects in the near term, the possibility of a third season seem to be fading.
What will be the star cast for season 3?
As of now, neither the third season nor the star cast for ‘Mindhunter’ has been confirmed. The fact is that even if ‘Mindhunter’ returns with season 3 in the near term, there is no assurance that the entire star cast of the previous two seasons will return. Simply because the cast is no longer in the contract, it might be harder for creators to gather everyone back.
The key star cast to never return for season 3 of ‘Mindhunter’ on Netflix?
However, whenever ‘Mindhunter’ returns with season 3, we expect the key star cast of the first two seasons to return. The key star cast includes Jonathan Groff (as Holden Ford), Holt McCallany (as Bill Tench), Anna Torv (as Wendy Carr), Hannah Gross (as Debbie Mitford), and others.
Do you think Netflix will bring back ‘Mindhunter’ for season 3? Or will the show see its end with only two seasons?
